Yesterday I had the pleasure of soaking up an Equine Facilitated Learning session with two of the amazing ladies in my training program.
One of the activities we do with clients and our insightful equine partners is an obstacle course. How this looks and unfolds is unique for every individual with their personal struggles, life goals and needs, and of course how and what the horses teach cannot be scripted or planned. It is quite profound.
An obstacle is something that blocks one’s way or prevents or hinders progress.
As I was working through the obstacle course, the messages were quite clear .. I actually started to think “this is too easy, I thought it would/should be harder”, and as I sat with that for awhile – I saw a pattern within myself.
That got me thinking how sometimes we make things harder for ourselves than they 1) need to be and 2) truly are.
I began to wonder .. where do I create unnecessary obstacles in my life? In my business? In my relationships? In my parenting? In my health?
Some obstacles are out of our control and we must learn to embrace the challenges and use our intelligence, a gift we all have that is meant to be used with love, compassion and discernment.
Intelligence means recognizing the value of intuition partnered with smarts and common sense, which leads to intelligent solutions.
However, some obstacles we create out of fear, insecurity, boredom or resistance. We’re often looking for a distraction when we’re out of alignment.
This is a powerful teaching tool, begin to pay attention and notice where you create unnecessary obstacles in your life. Spend time getting curious on the deeper meaning behind why you’re creating difficulty for yourself.
Some examples may be;
Are you opting for fast, processed foods because you can’t find the time to shop and cook wholesome meals?
Are you avoiding having that difficult conversation because you’re fretting their reaction?
Are you putting off exercising because you’re too tired?
Are you bypassing forgiveness because you don’t want to forget?
Are you struggling with something but to embarrassed to ask for help?
Are you evading pursuing your dreams and goals because you’re afraid of others opinions? Or that you won’t be successful?
As we uncover the truth behind the obstacle we discover our limiting beliefs stored deep within our subconscious mind and we can start to change our patterns and behaviours that affect our personal and professional lives.
Obstacles don’t block the path ~ they are the path.
Where have you been creating unnecessary obstacles that are holding you back from your true potential?
