The Waves of life

As she sat on the sea shore, beautiful white sand, clear blue sea and the light of the sun shining upon her. She sat close so every wave that come in was rolling across her legs up to her waist. She pondered the beauty of this moment called now.

She was an empathetic soul and the sea grounded her energy and gave her clarity.

Some waves that come in rolled beautifully across her legs, feeling wonderful, soft and soothing, these waves made it easy to see the beauty of life. Other waves that rolled in hit a little harder… took her by surprise but she could quickly forgot about those ones. More waves came in these hit even harder, kind of like a blow to the chest, they hurt a little and she felt some disappointment that her beautiful sea could be so rough and unpredictable at times. But never the less she could recover fairly quickly from these waves learning to become more prepared for the harder knocks.

As her day by the sea continued the wind picked up and so did the waves. She decided to sit a little deeper in the water up to her waist, it was then the sea waves crashed upon her and overwhelmed her. They slammed her body (and spirit) crushing her in to the sea bed below, she tried to get up but as the sea drew out it took her with her. She fought harder to recover and get out of this power when another wave slammed in to her, delivering her back to the shore where she got up coughing and spluttering. She looked back at the sea in awe of the power it had to take her down.

She took some time to lay on her sun lounger after this, her body was hurting from the slamming of the wave and she was tired from the struggle to get out and not drown. She lay there thinking about what had just happened and soon drifted off to sleep. She woke feeling hot and still a little sore so decided to cool down in the sea. The waves weren’t crashing on the shore any more so she felt safe to get in without being crushed. She swam in until the water covered her shoulders, her head just above. She realised that all though the waves weren’t violently crashing anymore they had now become big and deeper. She remained calm and bobbed along in the water enjoying being immersed in the beautiful sea water and looking back at the people on the shore. As she turned back around a huge wave was heading towards her, it took her by surprise, instead of continuing to float and bob with the wave as she had been she braced herself, tensed as though she was going to be able to make a stand against the natural powerful wonder that is the sea. Of course she couldn’t stop this wave it was upon her and it went over her head, she was now completely under the water feeling like she was drowning. She panicked for a moment as she was under then remembered she can float with it so as her head come out of the water she kicked her feet off of the sea bed and relaxed so that she could float on the water and back to shore. She’d had enough of the sea for one day and packed up and left.

It was later that day she reflected on the waves and how each one of them made her feel. All of a sudden crystal clear clarity bestowed upon her and information flooded her mind. She saw in that moment how the waves represented life itself. The soft waves were such a joy to experience that made you wish every wave was that way. Then there was the harder knocks that took you by surprise, but are not too hard to recover from. But sure as sure is made you more prepared for the next one. Albeit a little disappointed that life can be so rough. These waves represented the earlier years of life when your not too deep into the journey yet, still naive and unprepared for the harder knocks. Then as you go deeper into the journey of life as the years pass by there are the waves that slammed harder on her body and spirit which she fought hard against and tried to run from to no avail as it dragged her back in deeper as the seas drew out before slamming her again. These waves didn’t feel a good experience at all and just as you think you out of the water this wave experience slams you again, leaving you feeling battered & bruised… spirit crushed… disappointed about how harsh these waves can be. It takes a longer amount of time to recover from these experiences but after enough rest and in reflection you can see how this experience was just that.. an experience, one of many lessons, one that not only you survived but has also made you tougher and more resilient. These are also the kind of wave experiences that can put people in to survival mode and leave you a little scarred and left with the feeling that life has knocked… well…. a little life out of you. This sometimes leaves you in deeper water, playing small in this game of life just about surviving, head is just above water. Your just floating and bobbing along in life… surviving. These are the times when the big waves can easily go over your head, overwhelming you. Your alive but barely breathing. You struggle and struggle but to no avail as all your achieving is catching the odd breath before going under again. It is in these moments that you can choose to fight or flight. Fighting such waves is no use at all, takes all your energy and all you get is a measly occasional breath of air. If you try to run you soon realise that this wave will not release you from its depths until it passes naturally. It was in that moment when she was under that wave she chose to use her experience and resilience and remember that she can float on top of it. It was that moment that she stopping fighting and trying to escape and trust in her ability to ride on top of this wave. It was that moment that she was released from the illusion that the wave had more power than herself and it was this moment that she decided she would trust herself to be able to deal with whatever wave that come. Sure the soft waves are a joyous experience but she didn’t learn much from those. It was the harder knocks and tougher struggles that lead her to learn self love, compassion and her own strength, to build resilience and an unwavering trust of herself. It was the tougher experience waves that lead her to stop fighting or running from any such experience and learn her power to be able to not just survive but to ride on top of these experiences with some joy knowing that they will pass and pass even faster if she flows with it, observing each experience with no judgement and learning the lessons each wave presented. Each time navigating through the journey with more wisdom. Her experience by the sea that day had given her all this clarity and knowledge that she knew she had carried inside all along. This day seemed to unlock the wisdom from her mind which was now beautifully flowing through her just like those soft, wonderful waves that brought ease and joy.

Her final thoughts being, Life is a beautiful sea shore, the waves are our experiences and the way we learn the lessons we agreed to learn before we decided to dive in this journey of life. The whole reason we chose to come here and play “human” for a while. To learn and to grow. The sun that bestows you on the sea shore is light, a metaphor of what we’re made of, what we are at our essence. The purest light of unconditional love. The last thing that streamed from her mind and through her, giving her goosebumps was that it was all BEAUTIFUL, every wave soft and wonderful or seemingly strong and harsh was all stunningly, beautifully orchestrated to get us to FEEL, learn and grow and most of all learn to flow with it with joy. We can be dragged kicking and screaming or we can flow laughing all the way. One things for sure the waves are the experience of life and living.

After her day by the sea that gave her a metaphor which unlocked this knowledge that she had carried all along she knew which way she wanted to journey from now on.

No more fighting, no more running.

Just riding high on those waves laughing all the way.

She is me. I’am you. You are me. We are one.
