If you live under a rock (no offense) and have never heard Etta James’s song “I’d Rather Go Blind,” I’d highly recommend going and listening to that first.
And, actually, it was written by Ellington Jordan and co-credited to Etta James and Billy Foster.
But it was first recorded by Etta James in 1967—and she turned the song into a legend.
Similarly, if you’ve never heard of Dua Lipa (again, rock?), now’s a good opportunity to acquaint yourself.
She’s made quite a name for herself in recent years, with her stunning, powerful, soulful vocals.
Her rendition of “I’d Rather Go Blind” is intimate and breathtaking and is well worth a listen (or five, or twenty, or five hundred).
