Always practice. Even when there is non-practice. Always practice.
You may be at the grocery store standing in the check-out line with your items. Focus on the breath. When we awaken each morning to witness the rising sun. Focus on the breath. When we are commuting to our places of work. Focus on the breath. We can be anywhere. We do not have to be on the cushion. The opportunities to practice are endless.
Our environment becomes more beautiful when we practice off of the cushion. Traffic becomes an interesting journey of stopping and contemplation. We prepare our food at a slightly slower pace because we enjoy the process of the ingredients becoming a meal. Our meal may even taste better too!
Today when I ate my breakfast, I realized that I enjoyed the orange. The orange was juicy and sweet, but I wasn’t as present with the orange as I was with the avocado bread. Focus, gratuity and mindfulness were practiced while eating the avocado bread. This is why it is important to practice always, so every moment is equally practiced with focus, gratuity and mindfulness.
Before, I felt sad for sleeping in the car because I missed the bed. Now, I am happy to sleep in the car because it is shelter. The sun rise is seen each morning from the dashboard, framed by purple and blue mountains. The birds sing beautiful songs to celebrate the dawn. Life continues on.
To flow with the river of life is to practice to float and let go gently. Practicing each moment is to float and let go gently.
