“You Seem Like a Really Nice Guy”

I don’t like it when I hear “you seem like a really nice guy.”

That’s a compliment, right? Would I prefer “you seem like a douchebag.” No. How about “you seem like a badass, a rebel, with a leather jacket, Harley Davidson, and tattoos who doesn’t give a fuck.” Well yeah, that guy sounds cool, but that ain’t me.

I don’t want to be called the nice guy, the badass, the tough guy, or even the cool guy. I just want to be Jared. The best compliment I can receive is for someone to say “you’re being really Jared today.” That’s as authentic as it gets. Being me, and no one else. Being Jared can’t be described. There are no exact words to describe me, and yet every word can work too. I can be happy, sad, tough, nice, mean, funny, and a whole lot more in the course of one day (or even an hour). No need to label me as one or two characteristics, for I am all of them, and you are too. We just show our traits in our own unique ways.

So today, I don’t care about being anything except Jared.
