DEATH AND HER

Death waited at the door
Watching her lie on the cold hard bed
Her eyes closed, her lips flexed  a slight smile
Like she was there yet somewhere else
In another world.

She sensed the darkness that stood in front of her
Yet was unfettered and unafraid
She had lived a life filled with amazing moments
Not one day did she ever let go
Without a kind word

She walked with compassion,
Exuded graceful empathy
Reached out to the downtrodden
Lifted many hearts
And touched  a multitude of souls.

Death waited at the door
Watching her lie on the cold hard bed
His eyes closed in quiet desperation
Like he was there yet somewhere else
In another world.
