Practicing silence is a beautiful experience for the self and for the world. Silence can be practiced for five seconds or five days. The length doesn’t matter, but the intent should always be strong.
The beauty of silence is the awareness. We do not need to speak all of the time. There is comfort in the awkward and uncomfortable. This comfort is guided by conscious breathing. The conscious breathing allows us to fully enjoy the moment. We begin to fully appreciate our functioning eyes as we silently see the world.
Remaining silent is remaining mindful. Allow the thoughts to come and go without reaction. Our mind is like a deep vast ocean. Each wave that touches the shoreline is a thought. The emotion behind each thought determines the wave’s intensity. During silent practice, we observe the waves touch the shore, and then flow back into the ocean. We do not jump into the ocean. We do not encourage the waves to flood the land. We watch. We listen. We let go.
Silent practice allows us to live in the moment. We can look around at our environment without commenting on the description. We can just live and enjoy. We may even notice something new in a familiar environment. This expands our awareness.
During silent practice, always remain compassionate in the heart. View the world full of love, patience and understanding. The mind will follow and become one.
