Valentine’s Day is all about romantic love. But what about those who don’t have that in their lives? Many things can be achieved by sheer determination, but finding a partner is not one of those things. Being single is BADASS. But there are times that it is lacking. Some of us are reluctantly single, yet not willing to “settle.” So as this date rolls around once again, if you get a little melancholy, I have these wishes to share:
May you find contentment in your current situation that does not require kisses and romance to make you smile. Treat yourself well, whatever that means to you. Go to yoga, order takeout, watch a sad movie and cry, watch a funny movie and laugh! Go buy your favorite bottle of wine, grab some Lindor truffles and take a bubble bath. Make a roaring fire and read a good book.
Find the love you already have in your life. A dog, a child, your grown-ass kids who love you, your parents or siblings or friends or neighbors. Love does not have to be boyfriend/girlfriend style. Count up the people you love, and who love you, and feel blessed.
Look yourself in the eye and recognize that you totally love yourself! And you are in it for the long haul, no break up. Ever.
Find some genuine gratitude for all the beautiful things you have Right Now.
Think of all the unhappy couples you know and how you really don’t want that. Realize that when you are envious of your coupled-up friends, they are just as envious of you and your carefree existence.
And then drink some of that wine and tear the f*cking page off the calendar.
