The Greta effect

The Greta effect

Greta Thunberg is still lecturing to more world leaders about her message which is pointed but not well defined. What she is proclaiming could however be considered allegorical and deep seated.  In this the younger generation from birth have being subjected to having to accept their parents’ and grandparents’ ideas on religion, where they can now turn to Google and U Tube and find out quickly that while for example, the Bible had some uplifting principles on which people could live with each other and is a good story, it is not real. The kids realizing this feel conned but can’t do much about it since the very foundations of western civilization are based on the Christian beliefs on which in turn all western law is based. They find it hard to tell their elders they are wrong. There is a Queen of England and the Commonwealth with her own Christian Church and Trump as arguably the most powerful man on the planet, impeachment attempts notwithstanding, swears on the Bible to take office. All over the western world there are these magnificent churches, art and music inspired by this religion so the kids are crying out against what they can’t fight. On behalf of that younger generation Greta says you have conned us, How dare you!

Can anyone see the connection? There is absolutely no way any youngster such as Greta can tackle this religious conundrum her elders would be too afraid to approach. Religion has done both good and bad as everyone searches for an answer to where did we come from, where are we going and what is the meaning of life? Religion always provided some vague options better than nothing even if it lacked proof. Needing to save the planet and our existence is hard to argue against and hence the new mantra of “Climate change-save the planet”. Who will say we shouldn’t? Which is why Greta has such a massive following from the older middle-aged warriors who know they would never get away with denouncing the much-loved Bible in public even if it contradicts itself from almost page one. So if anyone is attacking poor Greta, perhaps think along these lines and read her message in a slightly different form and it might be the start of something bigger even if she doesn’t realize it herself: an older generation using her to pass a message they are too afraid to do themselves.
