It is no surprise that we are in the midst of a challenging yet incredible time in history — one that has never been experienced before.
It is also no surprise that there are some pretty strong opinions floating around the inter webs, creating chaos and confusion.
“Coronavirus is a hoax.”
“N95 masks aren’t safe and will suffocate you to death.”
“The mainstream media would never lie to us.”
“Bill Gates is God” or “The Anti-Christ”
“A deadlier second wave is coming in the Fall” (cue doom and gloom Twilight Zone music)
You get the point. I’m not agreeing nor disagreeing with any of the above. I, like you, have my own opinions and perspectives, but perhaps I’ll save that for another post.
Regardless of what you believe, you have probably been attacked on social media or have witnessed the virtual slaughtering of others who share what they believe to be true or not true. You may have even lost friends, followers, and family members.
No matter what your situation is, let’s take a look at the bigger picture here, shall we?
We are humans with our own opinions and perspectives based on what we have been taught by our parents, teachers, lovers, and those we surround ourselves with. It’s pretty much like one big orgy fest of similar beliefs circulating amongst the same group of people. So, of course, when we are challenged by what we believe to be true at our core, our natural human instinct is to defend ourselves and reject a different opinion. This is called cognitive dissonance. It’s an actual thing. Look it up.
So, what can we do to honor the keyboard warrior within ourselves, as well as be kind to others, while we are home hiding from ‘Rona?
- Let’s be honest with ourselves and understand that we don’t have the full picture. It’s not like we have a GPS to track Coronavirus or can tap into its consciousness and have a full blown conversation filled with questions and answers. When we understand, as a society, that we don’t know everything, it takes that pressure off of needing to prove to others what is ‘right’ or ‘wrong.’
- Diversity is our friend! I feel like humans tend to think that if we were aaaaaaallllll alike, we’d enjoy life so much better. Honestly, that would be beyond boring! Embrace others who have a different opinion. Open your heart a bit, boo. I promise you will survive.
- Chances are, regardless where you stand on any issue, both sides have the same goal in mind, which is to protect ourselves and those we love & have a life filled with joy, love and safety. When we realize the idea of taking ‘sides’ is an agenda set in place to cause more division, we are able to see the higher perspective & that we all pretty much have similar intentions in mind.
- If you get triggered, I double dog dare you to just feel your anger/annoyance, etc.. and not act on it. I know you may be tempted to get the sword out or bodyslam someone with your words. I get it. But is it worth it? We are really all on the same page and are standing for what’s right & just for humanity. We’re just taking different routes to get there.
