Traveling to Paris? What you can eat in the city of love

No, is not another article about corona-virus. We all know that traveling now is not the best idea, but if things are going to change and you have planned a trip to Paris, I have some suggestions of what you can eat in the city of love.

Croissants:

When it comes to breakfast pastries, Paris croissants still reigns. Walking past any bakery in the wee hours of the morning, the warm buttery smell of fresh croissants escaping from the air vents will leave you spellbound. Here is your cue to step in the bakery and grab the hefty croissant, which you can tuck into and savor on your morning walk as the city awakens.

Petit Fours:

Petit Fours are a work of art, beautifully decorated with elaborate glacing. You can find sweet as well as hearty ones. Tiny macaroons or biscuits are filled with a sweet, fruity or spicy cream, eg. a cream of olive or salmon.

The name literally translates to “small oven” and dates back to the age when bakers and pastry chefs used the remaining heat of the oven (after baking bread) to create cookies.

Crepes:

Be sure to pick a stand that cooks crêpes from scratch. Reheating precooked crêpes makes them thin. Crepes can be a main dish, dessert, or just for an afternoon snack. Crêpes come with lots of different fillings. Nutella and fruit jams are the most popular ones.

Steak Frites:

Steak Frites, head to one of Paris’ atmospheric French brasseries. Steak and Fries is a simple dish of beef steak alongside strips of deep-fried potato.

The simple pairing of grilled steak with various optional sauces and chips is elevating to serious heights in Paris. The fries can be cut into thick or thin strips and served crisply. Steak Frites go well with gravy or sauce, including béarnaise, a creamy sauce (made from clarified butter), herbs, and egg yolks.

While enjoying the magnificent moldings, make sure you indulge in some of the city’s most delicious cuisine. Do yourself a favor and throw the diet out of the window because you don’t need one when you visit Paris.

Stay safe!
