Throat Health for Thriving Communication

In times of revolution and pandemic communication is extremely important. These times may be encouraging people to step into public speaking, singing, protesting and having important conversations. We are needing to come out of our comfort zones to have transformative conversations. Conversations around boundaries, educating about racism, discussing solutions and beyond. Sometimes due to vulnerable or intense conversations or fear of them our throats can have physical symptoms of this stress. Also overuse or underuse of our voices can also create physical or emotional symptoms. In this blog, I’m going to list and describe ways to improve your throat health through herbs, vegetables, and crystals.

Herbs for the Throat

Calendula As a flower essence or tea, Calendula is used to support those who have a hard time communicating clearly to speak with warmth, opening them to receive the messages of others and communicate from their hearts in a way that enhances understanding.

Echinacea tincture or tea for sore throat is from bacteria and viral infection.

Fenugreek gargle the tea to relieve sore throat.

Ginger tea with honey and lemon tea, gargle or drink for sore throat, hoarseness, laryngitis or swollen glands.

Honeysuckle flowers to support the healing of sore throats, colds, flus, tonsillitis, and pneumonia.

Licorice root tea for sore throat and helps you spit out phlegm.

Marshmallow root soothes a scratchy, itchy throat. The mucilage in it soothes the throat and helps protect it from bacterial infection.

Mullein hot poultices of the leaves put topically on the throat can soothe sore throats.

Parsley leaf can reduce swelling in swollen glands.

Sage tea or in soup for sore throat.

White Oak bark tea is wonderful for the throat if due to hoarseness and/or laryngitis.

Vegetables and fruits for Throat Health

Bananas can also provide necessary nutrients such as Vitamin B6, Potassium, and Vitamin C that support growth and repair of tissues in your throat.

Cabbage can reduce the inflammation and pain caused in your throat as it has a lot of antioxidants , Vitamin C and Vitamin K. Mixing cabbage with a bit of apple cider vinegar could be delicious and very helpful for your sore throat.

Carrots (boiled or steamed) Carrots contain a lot of antioxidants and Vitamin C that supports repairing damaged tissue from the sore throat.

Garlic raw or slightly cooked for antibacterial and antiviral properties if that is the cause of the sore throat.

Pomegranates juice or fresh fruit have antioxidants and astringents that can help reduce swelling in the throat, which reduces the pain.

Crystals for the Throat

Aquamarine opens the channels of clear and heartfelt communication. It can support us to speak clearly and without anger in difficult situations.

Lapis It encourages you to voice your opinion and feelings. The crystal encourages open communication with others. Lapis helps if you have any complaints about your throat, larynx, thyroid and vocal cords.

Sodalite for public speaking and healthy communication. Disagreements and arguments are easier to work through with the use of sodalite.Sodalite supports healing of the throat, vocal cords, larynx and hoarseness.Sodalite can also improve the immune system and facilitate cleansing the organs and lymphatic system.

Turquoise is great for supporting the throat chakra to foster honest and clear communication from the heart. Enhancing intuition, it also enhances communication between the physical and spiritual realms. You can use Turquoise to release old vows, express freely, and ease nerves when speaking in public and protection.

For any of these crystals, it supports the throat if you place the stone on it for at least 15 minutes or wear a necklace or piece of jewelry of the crystal.

In these times we must tend to healing our bodies, grounding and self & community care. I really enjoyed focusing on the throat because it doesn’t always get the attention. It feels important for us to breath and listen to what our bodies are communicating to us. Asking ourselves what are the deeper meanings behind these symptoms. What are we repressing? What could we say from our heart instead of our trigger? How do you speak to yourself?
