Have you ever sat and stared into a roaring fire?
Have you ever seen shapes within the flames and wondered what they meant? Then you have practiced pyromancy: the art of divination by fire.
Now that COVID-19 is all around, and doesn’t seem to be leaving anytime soon, it’s important to provide people new tools, new ways to receive answers and guidance for their life.
With therapists busier than ever, and people trying to cope with all the twists and turns of these uncertain times, it’s important to delve into the past to see how people centuries ago dealt with the difficulties of their time.
Pyromancy is a unique type of divination; the reader stares into the flames of a fire and interprets the signs and patterns that they see. Different materials, like bones or shells, may be thrown into the fire to enhance an interpretation.
This art goes back centuries; many civilizations have peered into flames to connect to their gods or intuition to help solve a problem. During the Renaissance, pyromancy was believed to be too dangerous, and was classified as one of the seven forbidden arts.
Nowadays, families have firepits or candles at home that have a hypnotic affect on our soul; by staring into these flames we are able to connect to the divine, and obtain answers we desperately seek from our higher self.
Now remember, any tool used in divination, whether it be crystals, Tarot cards, or tea leaves, is only used to occupy space in the conscious mind. This is to allow the soul-self or intuition to interpret what is received from Spirit.
As I always say to my clients, cards and crystals are not magical—their vibrational energy allows for a deeper connection to source, providing insights or answers.
Going as far back as the Old Testament, fire was connected with divine intervention. For example, the burning bush helped to guide Moses and the Israelites during a challenging time. While we may not be facing the same challenges as the ancient Israelites, our world certainly has many challenges of its own right now.
Pyromancy is simpler than it seems.
Start with igniting your firepit and connecting with those flames, or light a candle.
Then, soften your gaze and stare into the flames; allow yourself to settle into your body and be still. It’s easier if the room is dark, so light does not interfere with the flame.
Once you are in a centered place, allow yourself to connect with the fire. Look at the fire but don’t stare too hard; it’s almost as if you are having a daydream with your eyes open. Allow your gaze to softly settle, take a deep breath, and exhale any concerns you may have. After you exhale, allow a question or concern to form in your mind. Send that question into the flames energetically and see what evolves.
While you are connecting with the fire, bits of information will come to you—don’t question them and don’t judge them. Just allow them to come. This information could be colors, feelings, or just awareness. Take a note of these observations and how they make you feel.
The important thing is to not judge the information you are getting; like anything else this takes a little practice. Each time you practice and stare into the flames, new answers and expanded insights will tickle your consciousness. As long as you don’t judge or question the answers received, you will be surprised at how much information will come to you while gazing lazily into a flame.
Do criticize yourself during this practice; there are no right or wrong answers. The way we connect with our higher selves or the divine is by trusting the information that we receive. The answers are always around us. We only need to allow ourselves to connect to these answers, and know them to be true.
Universal energy is always trying to push you in the direction your soul needs to go; our ego likes to fight with this. Remember this as you stare into the flames: let go and allow truth to come to you.
There is a beauty and simplicity when practicing pyromancy; connecting to the flames has a holiness to it—perhaps this is why candles are burned in churches and other places of worship.
By connecting to the fire, you are simultaneously connecting with your own soul or God-self. This is where your answers are located.
I encourage you to try this simple, yet profound, means of divination. I would love to hear about your results.
You are much closer to your answers than you think.
