Who is Chiron?
Chiron on our natal chart is said to represent our deepest wounds and the things we have come to grow from in our lives.
In Greek mythology, Chiron is a teacher centaur, as he was known to be wise and knowledgeable about medicine. In terms of astrology, Chiron is a comet with an “erratic orbit” and on the natal chart the place of our “wounded healer.”
There seems to be some disagreement about the importance of Chiron, with some astrologers suggesting that this is one of the most important aspects of our natal chart, and others arguing that this placement is complete crap.
I will attempt to explain Chiron, as I know it to be, from my own experience and from seeing this placement on charts of people I have worked with. My intention is to help you, the reader, understand that as humans there is always more going on than meets the eye. Your life matters and your soul has a purpose, but all too often we can get so heavily entrenched with our human identity that we forget there is a bigger purpose to our time here on Earth.
What is the relationship between our Trauma and Chiron Placement?
Quite frankly, I’m not sure where to start here. This feels like a deep topic, so how does one make it lighter without leaving out important aspects of the function and purpose of our soul’s existence?
It has been suggested that Earth is a school of sorts, with all of us souls coming here to learn certain things and advance as spiritual entities.
Some metaphysical teachers suggest that we are like the fingers of God, who is omnipotent, and we come here to have experiences dressed up in these costumes we call bodies. It has also been suggested that our souls choose the experiences we are going to have in order to advance, and go higher on the spiritual plane and within the spiritual realm.
Of course we cannot fully know this until we cross over, but I have heard that some of the most advanced souls on Earth often have the hardest lives. This is where our Chiron placement comes into play.
So, let’s just say, for example, that our earliest childhood experiences involved a lot of rejection and neglect from our parents. This would be a traumatic experience to us as we tend to take things personally as children. This is how our brains develop. At the core level, this experience could leave us internalizing that we are not enough and unworthy of love. In some cases, if love was withheld or kept from us if we did not behave a certain way, then love later on becomes performance-based. So then we grow up into adults with these traumatic memories about love hardwired into our brains, as that was how it was shaped by our caregivers.
Oftentimes, we might be met with circumstances that replay the message of feeling unworthy or that we are not enough, or worse yet, that we are not loveable simply because we exist. These scenarios might play out with intimate partnerships, chosen professions, or even our own bank accounts.
Sad as this might be and as challenging as this might feel, let’s digress just a bit and think about all of the various components that need to be set up in order for this scenario to play out perfectly.
First, we would need to be born to the right people to make these traumatic experiences possible. We would need all of the right environmental factors and situations to assist us in overcoming the deep wounds we received as children. On the level of astrology, this would need to be calculated to the very minute we were born, in order for all of the stars and planets to be perfectly aligned, so that our souls could work out these themes.
In the example I gave above, a Chiron placement in the 7th house (the house of partnership) would need to be present to meet all of the criteria for this particular placement to advance, and work through the deepest challenges and wounds taken on in life.
How Chiron Can Help Us.
It is my belief that when we can understand our Chiron placement, we can have a better understanding around why we have chosen to experience certain traumatic events in life. It also assists us in healing these traumas and overcoming our deepest wounds.
I also believe that it is the thing that can help us determine where we can assist other people in the creation of our life’s work. For someone with Chiron in the 7th house, this might mean assisting people with learning about self-love and self-worth, or helping couples in intimate partnership find harmony. Every soul has come here to learn certain things, so every placement will indicate something specific to you. You are not here by accident.
