Netherlands or Holland, as we popularly know it, is one of the most picturesque countries located in Western Europe. It has a temperate climate with rains all throughout the year, thanks to the neighbouring North Sea waters and so the winters are generously cold and the summers are soothingly warm. Therefore, a trip to this country can be planned anytime of the year with clothes according to the season and a must-have umbrella!
The capital city of Netherlands is Amsterdam, synonymously called the Pole City. Yes, that’s because it has been structured on the base of about 11 million wooden poles to keep it at a height above sea level. This place has many spots to visit- starting from the Rijks Museum to the Van Gogh Museum, the Vondel Park, the Anne Frank House and the Bloemen Market. However, there is one place that stands out because anybody who goes there comes out star struck, that place is none other than the world-famous “Madame Tussaud’s Museum”.
There’s a small history behind this 200-year old establishment. It has been named after the great artist, Marie Tussaud from Europe. She, with the help of her sons, displayed her wax creations in England, but due to the fire in London and the bombings of World War 2 all her work was destroyed. But nothing could stop what was coming, as Marie’s collection was rebuilt and put forward to the world in all grandeur at the Madame Tussaud’s Museum. Since then, the tradition of displaying popular personalities’ wax figurines has continued and modern techniques as well as specialized effects have been used to entertain the visitors. The ethereal look of this building on the outside is a hint to the beauty that lies inside. The museum has something to offer to individuals from every age group. It is a fact that everyone has somebody as their idol in their life and this place gives people an opportunity to experience what it would be like meeting them. So whether it is Bob Marley, Angelina Jolie, Sachin Tendulkar, Picasso, Anna Wintour, Barack Obama, Afrojack, The Dutch Royals and even the Avengers- you can see them all and feel star-struck!
In Amsterdam, travelling is very convenient as the city has well connected trams, metros and buses available for public use. The easiest way to get to Madame Tussaud’s is to take a train to the Central Station and from there it takes about 8 to 10 minutes of walking to reach the Museum, located in Dam Square. The best way to commute within this ‘City of Canals’ is via bi-cycles because there are many delightful sights which one may just miss out! When it comes to food the Dutch have it all, but the Stroopwafel is a must have mouth-watering delicacy out there. Also, in the area nearby one can find many cafes, coffee shops, restaurants, shopping centres and there are quite a few places available for accommodation purposes too.
So my dear traveller, what are you thinking? Get some euros, pack your bags and don’t forget to book your online tickets to the Museum (so that you can save both money and time) as its time to say ‘Hallo’, to the sweet people of Netherlands and experience the exquisite Dutch life in the land of the tulips – Amsterdam!
Veilige Reis People!
