It’s safe to say that we’re all aware of basic human rights in the United States, but are we aware that some of us have been denied basic human rights? You may have heard about undocumented immigrants in this country, but not their full story. Chances are, you’ve only heard what others think about undocumented immigrants but not what they know for a fact about them. However, I will be educating you about just one of the many concepts nobody seems to acknowledge when it comes to undocumnted immigrants living in this country. That concept is unducomented immigrants being denied basic human rights in the United States.
Basic Human Rights
Undocumented immigrants are facing horrible discriminatory situations as they are being denied Basic Human Rights and help, almost everywhere they go. If it wans’t for immigrant advocates, we wouldn’t even know how undocumented imigrants are truly treated in this country. Also, in order to sustain themselves and their families many migrants are forced to look for sources of income. Nevertheless, they are usually denied access to good employment because of discrimination, restrictions due to their legal status, and lack of support from host countries. This way exposing migrants to find themselves living in extremely poor conditions and deprived of legal aid or social services that could help them survive the situation. Migrants are particularly vulnerable to abuse and violation of their human rights because they usually come from a system that fails to recognize and protect these rights. Undocumented immigrants are usally unable or even unwilling to ask for protection from foreign countries. In turn, these governments may choose to-or not be able to-submit to their obligations of protecting the human rights of these immigrants.
Immigrants and the Economy
According to research, immigrants contribute to the United States’ economy in many ways that have a big impact on the consumer market. In fact, many immigrants bring much needed skills to the country’s economy, especially in the technology sector, where a vast majority of them are already owners of big technology companies in the Silicon Valley area. It’s no donut that in recent years we’ve seen a new aggressive approach when it comes to immigrants in the country. In the ways they’re unfairly being deported, even those who have committed minor offenses. However, many American businesses highly rely on the highly educated immigrant skills, which is in fact a win to Immigrants and the Economy overall. In addition, some industries might have trouble progressing without undocumented workers. For instance, undocumented immigrants constitute about 50 percent of hired farmworkers. Many experts on immigration and the economy say that “immigrants in fact are makers, not takers.”
Migrant Farmworkers
When migrating to the U.S. many unducometned immigrants find jobs as Migrant Farm Workers working in the agriculture sector. Unfortunately, immigrants are under horrible labor and living conditions in this country. These workers are working under extremely harsh conditions and living in places impossible to live safely partly due to wages not keeping up pace with inflation. On top of this, migrants have to endure abusive behavior coming from their bosses who enslave them and therefore take advantage of their fear of speaking up due to being afraid of deportation. Besides the salary unfairness, farmworkers face increased health risks and a shorter life expectancy than the average American, due largely to excessive pesticide exposure. There are a handful of cases where many farmworkers have died of heat strokes from working long and exhausting hours under the sun’s intense heat. It’s no surprise that undocumented immigrants are exploited like slaves for years, yet some americans believe that undcumented immigrants are taking their jobs when it fact, they’re just doing the jobs Americans don’t want to do.
