Went out for a walk and coffee. The weather is cool these days and a bit moist, which makes it pleasant. Full of oxygen. Blenz at Lonsdale and 15th was mid-busy, for the lack of a better word. Waited for the couple who were ordering to finish and clear the cashier area. The barista was a man – perhaps in his mid-20s. Persian speaking but naturally spoke English when I was ordering. Had a medium white mocha. Forgot to ask it to be with soy milk. It was ok. Enjoyed it.
There were 3 Spanish-speaking people in front of where I was sitting. They were standing by the high counters. The woman on the right was lively and pretty engaged in the conversation. So was the woman to her right. The third person was a mid-aged man, with salt-and-pepper short, stiff-looking hair.
Left around 6:30 pm to have something to eat. Came across a Sushi Station, a cozy small sushi place I hadn’t noticed before. They had a special of 3 kinds and a miso soup for $9.99. Ordered salmon tempura, tamago, and inari sushi. The food was superb. And the portion was pretty large. Makes a good 3-4 small meals for me.
After eating went grocery shopping at Loblaw’s. Many items were on sale, perhaps Black Friday related.
Got a Lyft back home. The driver was a warm Persian man from Shiraz. He was bored watching a movie at home and had stepped out for work. Talking about food he mentioned he squeezed a type of sour apple when he was a kid living in Shiraz and would have it with salt and pepper. First time hearing that. Sounds tempting although I would try it without the pepper.
When I got home put the food in the fridge and watched an interview with Lily Dancyger, a non-fiction, memoir writer and editor of Catapult – a writing school based in NY – who has published a book about his dad – who was a heroin user and who she lost when she was 11.
Had a cup of green tea with peppermint and cleaned-up the coffee table.
Time to go to bed.
