Dear Santa,

Go ahead, check all the boxes of things that are messed up. I could do it for you, but you don’t need my redundancy. And anyway, we might have slightly (or vastly) differing views of what is the uppermost on our respective lists.

Oh, okay, okay—if you insist:

• COVID (duh!)
• The government
• Trump
• Racism
• Misogyny
• Homophobia
• Violence
• World hunger
• Climate catastrophe

The real question, is who f*cked all this up, and what are we going to do about it.

We can continue to make our self-righteous social media posts, stand on our soapboxes, point our fingers at all the “others.” Or we can resolve to get involved with organizations that can help move us forward. Come on Santa, your busy season is over soon, and, face it, Amazon is doing a lot of the work for you now anyway. You can spare a few hours a week. Be a leader, get the elves involved.

My Christmas wish is that we create a country (a world) that is inclusive, egalitarian, compassionate, forward-thinking.

Yes, by gosh, I want world peace! There, I’ve said it! Call me Pollyanna, I don’t care.
