Forget cliches. Water, really, is life! This is no exaggeration at all, as water is needed in various areas of our lives; in our body, for cooking, cleaning, production of things, etc.70% of the earth is made up of water, and around 60% of the human body is made of water. What staggering statistics!
It has also been estimated that the longest one can stay alive without water is between 8-21 days. However, without food, one can stay alive for much longer. This shows that water is more essential to the body than food.
Lack of enough water in the body leads to dehydration, and this has a lot of effects, such as low blood pressure, feeling of dizziness, dark urine color, wrinkles on the skin and even making the skin vulnerable to skin disorders.
There are so many reasons why one is advised to take in more water, and while there may not be a specific amount of water to take in every day, there are certain things to do, to stay dehydrated all day long.
To start with, water should be taken first thing in the morning, before food. This helps to regulate the body system and keep one in shape. Water should also be taken during exercises, and before meals.
Below are seven reasons why you should drink more water:

1. It helps with Digestion and Constipation

Drinking more water aids the digestion of food in the body. Water helps to break food down, helping the body absorb the needed nutrient and dispose of waste. It also helps with constipation, which occurs when there is difficulty in evacuating feces from the body. Water, in this situation, helps to soften the stool, which makes it easy to pass out, thereby eliminating constipation.

2. Water helps to boost performance during physical activities

Water also helps to boost one’s performance during strenuous physical activities, in which one exerts physical strength. This is because, water is a supplier of fluid to the body system, which enables one to work. This is why athletes drink water after a period of engaging in athletic activities, in order to recuperate and regain strength for more work. This is also very important for anybody in life, adults who do strenuous work, students who go through school stress, etc.

3. More water intake also helps with weight loss

Drinking water half an hour before a meal helps to regulate your hunger level and makes you feel satisfied with little intake of food, which helps to reduce the amount of food you consume, leading to weight loss and helps in keeping fit. Water intake also helps burn calories in the body which helps in weight loss, generally.

4. Helps in the proper functioning of the kidney

One sure way to prevent the formation of kidney stones in the body, and to evacuate already formed stones is through drinking enough water every day. Water helps to reduce and flush the toxins in the body, which lead to the formation of these stones, and this is an important function to one’s health.

5. Helps with blood pressure regulation

90% of the human blood is made up of water, hence taking enough water is key in helping the body function properly. When the body is dehydrated due to a low intake of water, low blood pressure occurs. However, when there is enough intake of water, the blood pressure is regulated and at its normal level.

6. Helps to manage hangovers

Hangovers occur after excessive intake of alcoholic substances which could lead to headaches, nausea, etc. Hangovers are partly caused by dehydration, and drinking enough water which helps with hydration helps to reduce some of the main symptoms of hangovers. As a general rule, it is advised that a glass of water or two be taken in between drinking a bottle of alcohol, to help regulate the alcoholic intake with the water intake.

7. Regulation of the body temperature

To keep your body temperature at the normal level, one must remain hydrated, and water is needed for this to take place. During strenuous activities and exercises, one tends to sweat more, and as a result, lose fluid. Water intake is then necessary to regain the lost fluid and keep the body temperature at the normal level.

In all, water is important and nothing can take its place in the human system, in order to keep the organs of the body at their optimal level of performance.
