“In my latest Under The Skin podcast, I spoke with Indian scholar, food sovereignty advocate, and environmental activist #VandanaShiva. In this video, she speaks about #BillGates’s book, the colonisation of land and food production; however, she provides us with hopeful and powerful words of advice that might help us challenge these tech giants and monopolies.” ~ Russell Brand
I’ve long followed the wisdom of Vandana Shiva, a woman whose visionary words have inspired environmental and social awareness. She speaks directly in this interview to modern-day colonization under the guise of sustainability and eradicating world hunger.
Controversial subjects such as climate change, the power of Big Tech, cultural and racial inequity make for either inspiring or uncomfortable realizations. I enjoy the way Russell Brand is not shy to have honest conversations with people who are vested in a just world.
We imagine that colonization is something that happened long ago or that anyone uttering the word “sustainability” is mindful of not erasing culture and tradition.
This eye-opening interview makes me think deeper. How are we still white-washing, practicing erasure, and capitalizing popular catch-phrases to push an agenda that serves a few and damages the lives of many?
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this:
