Working with children in the foster care system as a camp counselor and mentor was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. Most of these children lived with relatives, in foster care, or group homes.
I volunteered for a Program named Royal Family Kids and we’d take about 150 kids every summer to camp where they’d be shown so much love and support by all of the volunteer staff. It was amazing!
We’d start our mornings with light exercise than breakfast followed by chapel, then making crafts, building birdhouses, tie dying shirts, water fun, archery, and much more.
This could’ve been my story, I moved around a lot from family member to friends to ultimately being raised primarily by my grandparents. Without their love and support I could’ve been a foster child.
My love for children and burdened heart for at risk youth has given me the thoughts and hopes of one day making a difference by becoming a foster care parent. I haven’t had the opportunity yet but I know that one day I will become a foster mom…
