Indian sages have defined 16 crucial events in one’s life, called Shodasha Samskara, such as naming ceremonies, beginning of education, marriage, last rites, etc. Except for the last rites, all the other Sanksaras have been carried out on a specific Muhurta, referring to the Panchanga. In this blog, we will try to have insight into the spiritual significance of Muhurta.

Muhurta is the best time chosen to begin or execute a task, ensuring success without any obstacles. Muhu means the moment and, Rta implies an order. The ancient text of Rig Veda says Muhurta is the yearly order of the different seasons.

Since 2000, the Indian civilization has had precise knowledge of stars and their alignments, called Panchanga. Every year, NASA and this thin book of Panchanga show the same time till seconds when it comes to astronomical events like comets, sunrises, sunsets, and eclipses.

What exactly is a Muhurta?
Panchanga has divided the time from one sunrise to the next into equal parts. One Kashta constitutes 1.6 minutes, 30 Kashta makes one Kala, and 30 Kalas transform to 48 minutes. Rigveda, the ancient text of Indian civilization, makes one Muhurta of 30 Kalas, or 48 minutes.

Different types of Muhurta
There are 30 Muhurtas given in a day as per Vedas. Before we look at the significance of Muhurta, let’s take a look at a few critical Muhurtas of the day.

1.Shubha Hora: It describes the auspicious time of the day, as per the star alignments. This time is considered blessed for citing prayers, carrying out Puja rituals and wedding ceremonies.

2.Choghadiya Muhurta: This type of Muhurta is considered best to start new ventures. This Muhurta is believed to last for about one and a half hours. This Muhurta has different types like Subh, Labh, and Amrit Muhurtas as subtypes.

3.Brahma Muhurta: One and a half hours before sunrise is considered Brahma Muhurta. Meditation and mantra chanting is the most beneficial when performed within this duration.

4. Rahu Kaal: Most inauspicious time of the day is considered the Rahu Kaal. Seekers should refrain from performing Puja rituals during this period. This time is considered highly adverse to start new projects or marriages.

5. Abhijit Muhurta: Abhijit Muhurta is considered the best time of the day to make investments, conduct meetings, and the outputs will be highly fruitful.

Apart from the Muhurtas mentioned above, the entire day has been divided into these Muhurtas. Starting from Sunrise, they are Rudra, Ahi, Mitr, Pitr, Vasu, Varaha, Visvedeva, Vidhi, Sutamukhi, Puruhuta, Vahini, Naktankara, Varuna, Aryaman, Bhaga, Girihsa, Ajapada, Ahirbudhyna, Pushya, Ashvini, Yama, Agni, Vidhatru, Kanda, Aditi, Jivamruta, Vishnu, Dyumadgadyuti, Brahma and Samudra, again continuing with Rudra Muhurta. One should consult an experienced astrologer before considering it auspicious or inauspicious.

Astrology denotes that every planet affects the human body. All those planets have their own identity, and all of them have their radiation and gravitational force, affecting all humans on a physical and subconscious level. Hence, their daily positions in our birth chart decide the excellent or adverse time for us.

Significance of Muhurta:
As we have seen earlier, the Muhurta defines the planetary positions and their effects on our mind and body; it makes sure that we are not going against the forces of nature.

Muhurta is exceptionally beneficial to those who don’t have their birth chart to avoid mistakes and ensure the proper channelization of their energy into constructive work.

In ancient India, Yagyas have been conducted at the precise time of Muhurta. It is believed that performing a Puja ritual right at the time of auspicious Muhurta yields more benefits than any other time of the day. And hence, Brahma Muhurta is considered best for activities like meditation and mantra chant.

Astrology says that work begins at the right Muhurta helps us make better decisions and boosts us with extreme confidence to complete that task.

Muhurta has vital importance when deciding the exact timing of marriage because marriage is not just a union of two people. Still, it is considered as the merging of two energies with each other.

During a Muhurta, the planetary alignments, their gravitational pull, along with their radiation, are so noteworthy that their arrangements help to attain positive results, yielding a mental boost.

Science states that each and everything vibrates at its frequency. These frequencies and rhythms are the reason behind the existence of seasons, cycles, and patterns. The change in frequencies governs the overall change in the universe.

When these frequencies match, we get the desired outcomes, and when these vibrations collide with each other, unfavorable conditions arise. Muhurta is nothing but detecting the most favorable time at which those frequencies, vibrations, or energies match. One must consult an experienced astrologer before deciding on the Muhurta.
