Pros & Cons of Postgraduate Education

There is an ongoing debate on whether a postgraduate education is essential for human life and wellbeing. The equally important issue is whether this type of learning associates with a decent standard of life and career progress. Some people believe that a university degree is necessary as the breath of one’s nostrils; others suggest that a postgraduate diploma is not worth tuppence. However, the truth is that higher education has both strengths and weaknesses, and you can find some of the examples below.

                                       Benefits of Higher Education

In fact, there are a lot of advantages to higher education. They touch on many areas of our lives, such as social matters or the economic realm. Speaking more specifically, with the help of the proper education, one can:

·    Increase one’s pay;

It is well-known that everyone wants to increase their earning potential, and it has been established that the pay rate correlates with the type of profession. Therefore, with the help of degree-level education, there is a higher chance of making good money.

·    Enhance employability;

The principal aim of a college education is to provide some opportunities to achieve employment. Higher education can prepare a person for a specific career path, as some jobs require academic qualifications.

·    Acquire essential critical thinking skills;

A tertiary qualification helps to broaden one’s horizons. The learning process introduces students to new concepts and fresh ways of learning. These all are linked to critical thinking, which is a necessary skill at a higher institution and a later life.

·    Expand professional networks;

University is the best place to make new useful acquaintances. This means one can share similar experiences and form strong friendships, which can come in handy on the job.

·    Contribute to society

It’s no secret that students encounter many difficulties in education. They have to deal with many subjects, learning how to write different types of assignments. And all at the same time. However, the very educative process does not cease to be less engaging due to this factor.

   Drawbacks of studying at the university

At the same time, one should admit that a postgraduate education brings up uncomfortable issues as well. The question of study at a university has never been in doubt. However, there is no garden without its weeds. The following are cons of postgraduate study:

·    Financial strain;

` The financial aspect is important for many people. Tuition fees are high maintenance, and students often need to work part-time jobs to cover expenses.

·    No job guarantees;

That’s a fact. Much depends on personal efforts and a global and country’s economic situation.

·    A heavy workload;

There is a proverbial phrase: “If life gives you a lemon, make lemonade.” The same is with an academic workload. Not everyone succeeds in their endeavors. This is especially relevant for those who need to work part-time.

   From all the above, one can conclude that an advanced degree has two sides of the same coin. It would be wrong to build castles in the sky. The academy issues no guarantee to the long shillings. Furthermore, it is a financial burden not to mention the time and effort investment.

It’s just an opportunity or an instrument set. It depends on the person how they will make use of their store of knowledge. One way or another, a tertiary qualification is always a personal choice.
