“Triggers” – We all have them.
When someone pushes your buttons and you react, something deep rooted is triggered. It’s almost like a bomb goes off, you can’t even think straight, you think: Not. Because if you would actually think about what the other person just said, you’ll come to the conclusion, that it is just a different point of view than yours, and you would welcome the expansion in your mind, and transcendent the idea.
Everything has a “point of view”, sometimes it is more fundamental than other times, depending on where you stand, when you look at the very thing you are looking at.
No one has the same point of view as you do; simply because they are not YOU! They didn’t grow up like you, they don’t have the same beliefs as you do, they had different life experiences than you, and their values are different. Our friends don’t even share our point of views, maybe in some areas, but definitely not all. But – that’s perfectly alright!
So, when someone pushes your “triggers” and you so vehemently defend your point of view, to make the other person see what you see and try to convince them, realize, they have their own “point of view”.
We are all different, and you can choose who you like, and dislike. You can choose your friends, and you can choose your life. I don’t have to agree with you, and you don’t have to agree with me, but I do have to respect you.
This is the beauty of living in a society that is based on freedom, justice and liberty.
Freedom is a beautiful word, try and live it! Let people live however they choose, but also be responsible for your actions. Just as it is in our Yoga practice: expansion is not possible without structure, and flexibility can’t expand if you don’t have strength.
A tree can only bloom, because it has a strong base, and it grows towards the sun, no matter what the circumstances are.
