The results are in. The locations listed below have been unofficially voted as the most popular art museums in the United States, thanks to ticket sales, public interest, travel blog recommendations and more. Perhaps after reading the following list, you’ll be inspired to embark on a road trip to experience these museums in person.

Museum of Modern Art

Popularly referred to as MoMA, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City has been a staple of the city that never sleeps since 1929, and for a good reason. MoMA is home to Van Gogh’s romantic Starry Night and famous works by other notable artists such as Picasso and Miró. On top of the museum’s prime location and celebrated pieces of art, it also offers film screenings, classes and other educational opportunities for patrons to learn from. The museum also has a history of showcasing temporary exhibitions, drawing in large crowds to these presentations.

Philadelphia Museum of Art

You might be most familiar with the Philadelphia Museum of Art due to its unforgettable appearance in Rocky. However, the museum is notable for much more than this brush of fame with Hollywood. Inside, patrons can explore a wide array of art collections spanning many different periods and styles. The museum is also recognized for having the world’s largest collection of Marcel Duchamp’s works. Not only does the museum portray stimulating artwork, but it also highlights themed rooms that will make you feel as if you’ve traveled across the globe. A few of these rooms include a Japanese ceremonial teahouse, a sixteenth-century Indian temple hall and more.

Los Angeles County Museum of Art

Located in, you guessed it, Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is home to an extensive collection of artwork spanning different time periods and styles. Perhaps most recognized by its street lamps outside its building, and having even been featured in the Hollywood film La La Land, LACMA has been buzzing with tourists ever since its birth. This beloved museum features works by the likes of Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and many more.

The Getty Center

Also home to Los Angeles, The Getty Center could not be left out of this list. Located on a hilltop surrounded by some of California’s finest scenery, The Getty Center draws in millions of visitors each year. Along with the museum’s exceptional collection of artwork, it also offers a heavenly outdoor atmosphere, comprising a courtyard with walkways and gardens. The Getty Center separates its art collections by their time periods, giving each room a specific aura for visitors to experience.
