To the women who have taken boys to school. {Poem}

Photo by Akil Mazumder on Pexels.

Here’s to the women:

to the women who have taken boys to school

to the women who have put in their community service for picking up boy shit

to the women who have volunteered their time, effort, and energy into working on themselves while turning boys into men

I see you, I hear you, I am you

one day, I know you’ll meet a man who’s graduated

who’s cleaned up his own shit

who’s volunteered his time, effort, and energy into working on himself

and shows up for you both

I know you’ll meet a man who’s ready when you’re done

done settling for these boys

these boys you’ve taken to school like it’s your obligation

because honey, you don’t have to keep choosing to be their teacher

remember that you have a choice to teach them

and if you do, do so not because you’re a woman and you feel like you have to…

but because you’re human and you want to.
