What Does It Mean To Be A Woman’s Woman?

Earlier today I heard myself say, “I’m a woman’s woman,” when speaking to a lovely acquaintance. The context of the conversation was family and support, and how incredible it is to have a village.

We’ve all heard the expression `a man’s man’, which typically describes a masculine fella, who’s popular amongst other men. But what does it mean to be a woman’s woman?

It means you hold other women in high regard.

It means you have true sisterhoods that run far deeper than Happy Hour or texting silly memes.

It means you look out for your friends’ kin when she’s away, and that you’ll treat them just as you’d treat your own.

It means respecting her relationship, her space, and her boundaries…and she yours.

It means that when she’s shining, you angle the spotlight towards her, as to showcase her glimmer.

It means that when she’s down, you angle the light slightly away, knowing she needs time to heal in private.

It means lifting her chin up when she’s not feeling good enough or worthy, and reminding her who the Hell she is.

It means standing up for her, even in her absence. Especially in her absence.

It means cheering her on and celebrating her wins.

It means making her tea after a loss, and comforting her when she needs you most.

It means helping the woman in the store who’s struggling with a toddler, or bringing a meal to the woman in your community who’s grieving.

Being a woman’s woman doesn’t ask of you to be merely nice; it goes far beyond nice. It’s about a connection amongst our sisters from around the world. This is now something I identify as with pride. I wasn’t always this way, but after outgrowing teenage insecurities and healing from my past, I leaned into it. There’s no going back for me. This is who I am now, a woman’s woman, and it’s one of the best parts of me.
