Work Problems Only Highly Sensitive People Will Understand

Highly Sensitive People constantly feel overwhelmed and stressed in the workplace; they might have difficulty dealing with pressure. Here are various signs you are a highly sensitive person.

Sensitivity is a virtue, but it can cause you a lot of distress or unrest in the workplace. Unfortunately, sensitivity at the workplace is common and, sadly enough, not recognized. Since most workplaces realize that confidence is the key to success, sensitive people are only declared less confident. But how sensitivity plays with your basic ability to work or even feel easy at work, only a highly sensitive person at work can understand.

If you think you might belong to the highly sensitive person workplace clan, then here are some highly sensitive personal problems you might have incurred in the workplace. By identifying the problem and efficiently dealing with them, a highly sensitive person at work can easily deal with a workplace issue.

Not Being Able To Speak

This is one of the most common scenarios a highly sensitive person (HSP) would experience in the workplace. Even if it is as simple as asking for a cup of coffee, asking someone to lower down the heat, or even requesting your chair from a co-worker, a highly sensitive person has a hard time asking for it.

They would rather remain anxious and uncomfortable in the given circumstances rather than disturbing anyone else. But, unfortunately, this could cause them to feel stressed for the tiniest reasons and even experience physical symptoms like headaches.

Light

Bright lights, strong fragrances, and loud chatter everything can stress out a highly sensitive person. Although dimming lights in the workplace isn’t the right solution, nor could you ask the employer to get rid of those fluorescent lights. This could compromise your ability to work. The great solution here is to get your own natural light desk lamp so you can adjust the intensity as you like.

Exhaustion

Highly sensitive people experience mental exhaustion to a greater degree. This is because they are great at feeling the emotions of other people around them. And in a workplace, stress is common so having to sit amongst many stressed individuals does a lot of damage to the brain. The key here is to relax through various desk accessories or even chat with a colleague to share your emotions.

Work Overwhelms You

Workplace stress is common, and almost everyone goes through it. But the workplace stress for a highly sensitive person is various times greater. Since they think and double process every detail, they have a hard time managing the pressure. They are in constant fear of disappointing their boss and managing their emotions at the same time.

Soft Skills Are Rarely Organized

While hard skills are what hire the talent, soft skills make the workplace productive and friendlier. HSPs are enriched with soft skills and play a vital role in driving on organization towards success. Unfortunately, these skills are not often recognized by bosses and higher management. This could make highly sensitive people feel unheard or invisible, causing a lot of stress.

Negative Feedback

While criticism in the workplace is common, an HSP will take any negative comment straight to their heart. They find it a blow to their personality because all they have been trying all along is to put other’s needs before theirs. To deal with criticism in the workplace, an HSP must realize that their emotions are valid and if there is something they can do to help clear the introspection, then speaking up is the right way.
