The Heart Chakra, or the Anahata, is the central Chakra in the seven Chakras. There are three Chakras above the Heart Chakra and Three Chakras below it. Anahata means “unhurt, unstruck and unbeaten”. Associated with balance, calmness, and serenity, the Heart Chakra is responsible for keeping a person unfazed in situations that would otherwise seem stressful. Cooperation, integration, inner peace, and a new perspective are brought in when a person meditates on their Heart Chakra. The Anahata sound is also identified as the cosmic sound which is present everywhere as white noise.
The Heart Chakra is represented as a lotus with twelve petals, each representing, bliss, peace, harmony, love, understanding, empathy, clarity, purity, unity, compassion, kindness, and forgiveness.
These qualities are in perfect balance when a person’s Heart Chakra is activated and is in alignment. However, with a misaligned Heart Chakra, a person tends to be disturbed, always feels unloved, isn’t able to make decisions, is a bad team player and can’t be forgiving or kind to others.
In Tantra, the Yantra of the Heart Chakra is composed of two overlappings, intersecting triangles. One triangle, facing upward symbolizes Shiva, the male principle. The other triangle, facing downward, symbolizes Shakti, the female principle. A balance is attained when these two forces are joined in harmony.
This also goes on to tell us that people with a misaligned Heart Chakra have problems with understanding and identifying their sexual identity, orientation, and preferences.
The seed Mantra of the Heart Chakra is Yam and the presiding deity is Ishana Rudra Shiva. He has a camphor-blue skin, he is two-armed. The nature of Ishana is peaceful and beneficent. He holds the trident in his right hand and a damaru drum in his left. The holy Ganga (river Ganges) flowing from his hair locks is a cooling and purifying stream of self-knowledge: the knowledge that “I am That”. The snakes coiled around his body are the passions, which he has tamed.
His energy is Kakini Shakti, her skin is rose-coloured. Her sari is sky-blue and she is seated upon a pink lotus. In her four hands, Kakini Shakti holds the implements necessary for one to attain balance: the sword, the shield, the skull, and the trident symbolizing the balance of the three forces of preservation, creation, and destruction.
1. Take a shower and change into clean, comfortable clothing. Ensure you have relaxed in the shower and are feeling calm and peaceful.
2. Put your phone on mute, and find a place in your home where no one can disturb you. If you can light candles around and create a warm and cozy atmosphere, it’s best.
3. Pick a time of the day when you can be at your most relaxed and calm self. It can be morning, afternoon, evening, or night depending on your comfort.
4. When you sit for the meditation, make sure you are in a comfortable position with your spine straight. It’s great if you can sit in a lotus position, or you can simply cross your legs and keep pillows under your knees to ensure comfort. Keep your arms on your lap and open your palms facing up. If you’d like to use a Mudra, you can touch the tip of your middle finger to your thumb.
5. Begin breathing, and observe your breath. Take deep, long breaths, hold them in, and then exhale. You will feel physical and mental distractions but just observe them and stay in your position. There is no need to force anything, let everything happen on its own. You are the observer.
6. Now, we begin focusing on the Heart Chakra. Place one hand on your heart and the other on your lower stomach. Start breathing into your heart. As you breathe in, visualize the breath going in and filling your Heart Chakra. Hold the breath for about 30 seconds maximum, you can start with 10 seconds, then 20 and then 30. Remember, there is no rush. Slowly, breathe out. So you are visualizing your Heart Chakra, the breath goes in, fills it, illuminates it an then the breath goes out.
During this process, your lungs, and your entire body will fill with air and oxygen. All of this is energy and you need to feel the energy of love in and around you. Breathe in life and love energy. Feel the love and warmth growing inside of you. Fell the heat of love in both your palms. Visualize your heart becoming a light orb which is emanating light and filling your entire body with warmth, love, and light. This energy, love, light, and warmth become stronger as you keep breathing in and out.
Do this meditation for a minimum of 24 minutes. 1 Minute for each hour of the day. If you like, you can also mentally chant the Heart Chakra Manta, ‘Yang’. However, it’s not as important in the initial stages.
Once done, open your eyes, look at your palms, rub your palms together and touch them on your face, eyes, and Heart.
You can continue experiencing the breathing to your Heart Chakra all day as you walk, talk, and go about your daily chores.
Try and pick the same time and same room every day for the meditation as the familiarity will work in your favor, helping your emotions and love to flow freely.
Please note that when you begin doing the Tantra Heart Meditation, you will feel past forgotten wounds resurfacing and feelings of hurt, guilt, pain, etc. might start coming back. We advise you to witness the pain and let it pass. These are coming out so that you can be cleaned to make space for love and light. Give a lot of love and light to all the wounds and pains that are coming and send them back to earth, where they will be transformed into positive emotions.
