I imagine the day I can return home.
I’m not sure what it will look like exactly, but I imagine it will still smell of salt water, freshly brewed coffee, and Douglas Fir trees.
I imagine this because no matter what changes in my life, this part of my home always remains the same.
A lot will likely be different though—my partner, my circle of friends, my job, and my “family.”
There’s a coffee shop called Adagio’s back home, and I imagine I’ll grow old there, writing love letters I’ll never send while my brown hair turns grey.
I imagine this and so much more.
I imagine one day I’ll be a professor walking through red square at my old university.
I imagine I’ll hold someone else’s hand and dance through life with them.
I imagine I will one day fall in love with my life again.
There’s so much about my “home” that I imagine will be different, but I imagine I’ll fit right back in.
I made the decision almost 10 years ago to go off on my own, and while I learned a lot and am grateful for all I experienced, I’m ready to go home.
I’m ready to return to no umbrellas, using an array of vocabulary to describe the rain, and picking out a scarf to wear for the day.
I’m ready to return to where I come from.
I’m ready to go back home and be my true Self.
