Why Committing to Love is the Path to Ultimate Fulfillment & Freedom.

“Love is an unconditional commitment to an imperfect person.” ~ Paulo Coelho

The power of love is transformative.

It has a miraculous ability to move mountains, birth life, and create meaning in our often seemingly meaningless existences.

Love is who we are at our core, so why is it so challenging sometimes?

Ego plays a big role. When our ego takes the reigns, its main objective is to create separation whether it’s through pride, jealousy, insecurity, anger, denial, greed, among others.

Both love and ego cannot simultaneously occupy our spiritual houses. If our actions are being directed by ego, love is not the driving force. A commitment to love is truly the path to fulfillment and ultimate freedom. How that love shows up is completely individual. Some people live a life committed to love by expressing their creative passions with the hopes of creating value for someone else in the process. Some people express their love by nurturing those in need. There are infinite ways we can demonstrate a commitment to love and likewise the receiver can come in any shape or size (a person, group, animal, cause).

In Marianne Williamson’s A Return to Love, she says,

“No matter what form our job or activity takes, the content is the same as everyone else’s: we are here to minister to human hearts. If we talk to anyone, or see anyone, or even think of anyone, then we have the opportunity to bring more love into the universe. […] When you know this, when you fully live up to the opportunity to heal, you achieve an energy that pushes you forward in worldly endeavors. Love makes you more attractive. That means you attract, like a magnet. You don’t just attract people; you attract various circumstances that reflect back to you the power of your devotion.”

In the context of a romantic relationship, committing to love is typically characterized by a wedding. You exchange vows, for better or worse. Unfortunately, with nearly 50 percent divorce rates (in the United States), there’s a significant disconnect between the better and worse part.

A Course in Miracles teaches us that only love is real.

Being in love isn’t a mood—it’s a commitment even after your mood changes. No relationship is perfect, because no person is perfect. Entering into a relationship is a conscious willingness to accept your partner’s imperfections, and to love them anyway. It’s also a space to cultivate 100 percent accountability and self-awareness. These are at the core of spirit-centered relationships.

Thoughts bred from the seeds of fear hold us back from experiencing true love, peace, and serenity with our partner.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on love and how you’ve been able to live through this lens during the pandemic. Leave your comments below!
