The history of the Tarte Tatin dates back to the 1800s as a dish created accidentally at Hotel Tatin owned by two Tatin sisters. Baking a traditional apple pie in their restaurant, one of the sisters accidentally overcooked the apples in butter and sugar. The chef however tried to revive the dish by putting a pastry base on top of the apples and cooking it in the oven. Later this dish received several praises from the customers. Hence was born the dish, Tarte Tatin of caramelized fruit served upside down on pastry.
