I want to talk about good and bad and how we think they’re two totally different things. They go together, good can’t exist without bad and bad can’t exist without good. But we make a mistake of separating them into two very different things. When in reality they are the same thing it’s just a matter of where our conscious attention goes. Let’s say you are an ant on a stick that is perfectly balanced on a rock. And we define the right part of the stick as good and the left part as bad. So you go to the left and the stick leans to the “bad” type of reality. You continue walking and it gets worse and worse and you forget about the other side of the stick. The deeper you go the harder it is to climb out of it. And if you really go deep enough you come to the end of the stick. So you have two options. First one is to simply turn around and go back up. Easier said than done. The other choice is to stay at the end and feel sorry for yourself. And that’s okay as long as you remember that you live on only half of the whole stick. That means that you can go to the same depth on the right side of the stick. And that’s exciting. So you decide that you want to explore the other side. And at first it’s really hard because it’s very steep and you may slide back down many times. But the higher you go easier it becomes. And at some point you’re back at where you began. So you go to the other side. The “good” type of reality. And the stick slowly starts to lean to the right. Deeper you go better it becomes. But it becomes more and more dangerous. Because you start forgetting about the other side of the stick. You convince yourself that the other side of the stick doesn’t exist. That the depth that you reached on the right differs from the depth that you reached on the left. But it’s the same stick. Same depth. So you shouldn’t ignore the other side, because if you would break the stick in half you would cut the branch that you’re standing on. You break the balance. So what you can do in this situation is to stay in the middle of the stick where you can see both sides. Try to find your own balance playfully swinging the stick left and right. I’m not saying you shouldn’t go to the depths. You definitely should go. It’s fun and unpredictable. But you should remember that you can always return to the top even if you don’t see it and find your balance again.
