It can be quite challenging to sit in the correct ergonomic desk posture. However, it doesn’t have to be so challenging. Today’s post is focused on giving you tips on sitting correctly while you’re working. However, please note that it may take some time to get used to it. At first, it may feel uncomfortable due to our bad sitting habits.
Office ergonomics
Before you learn the correct ergonomic desk posture, it is necessary to set up your office appropriately. If your workstation is not arranged appropriately, you’ll probably end up suffering from different pains in different areas of your body, including your back, neck and hands. Thus, before learning how to sit properly, let’s learn how to set up your office appropriately.
Ergonomic chair
If you don’t have an ergonomic chair, we highly recommend investing in one. These chairs are equipped with all the technology you need to feel comfortable throughout the workday.
A good ergonomic chair should allow you to adjust its features (seat height, armrest height) and should also include lumbar support. Some chairs integrate some extra features, like a headrest or a footrest, but these elements are optional.
Before sitting, make sure you’ve adjusted the chair to the optimal settings based on your body proportions.
Desk
Your desk is another area to take into account if you want to learn the ergonomic desk posture. Here we’ll tell you how to arrange everything correctly for your comfort.
- You should place your monitor directly in front of you. It should be an arm’s length away from your seat while somewhat below eye level. However, if you wear bifocal glasses, we recommend you lower your monitor one or two inches to have a better view.
- Your keyboard and mouse should be next to each other, allowing you easy access. Some people recommend using a 60% keyboard for ergonomic purposes, as it permits you to put your mouse closer to your right hand.
These elements are essentials of any office. However, we keep other objects, like a stapler or our phone around most of the time. Try to keep all the objects you think you’ll need as near to you as possible without disturbing your desk setup. The point is to have easy access to them.
Sitting correctly at your desk
Now that you’ve set up your desk appropriately let’s learn how to sit correctly in your ergonomic chair.
First, adjust the seat height and ensure your knees are even with your hips.
Next up, keep your wrists straight and your arms slightly below elbow level.
Try to keep your back straight at all times, ensuring you put it against the backrest of your chair.
It may seem easy, but sitting correctly at your desk may take you a while. However, learning the ergonomic desk posture can help you feel more comfortable throughout your workday, allowing you to be more productive and efficient.
Although sitting is important, remember to move once in a while to prevent suffering from backaches too often.
