Funny commercials, a halftime show featuring five legends—and, of course, the game between the Rams and the Bengals itself.
One of the biggest sports events in the world is about to happen. I am not talking about the Olympics; I am talking about the annual Super Bowl.
As a European, I always chuckle when the winner is called World Champion—but that’s another topic.
I am not a huge football fan or expert at all, but I am engaged to an American and enjoy sharing the excitement around this event.
I enjoyed watching the playoffs, and as a person who traditionally supports underdog teams, I couldn’t be more excited about the Super Bowl than this year.
But besides the game, it’s a huge event that brings families together. It’s an evening to celebrate American culture.
Folks all over the world are setting up to watch the game. European football fans are getting ready for a long night, as the kickoff is after midnight over here. But that won’t stop millions of fans from watching. It certainly won’t stop me.
Unfortunately, I won’t see the commercials. Of course, there are commercials in Germany, but not the same ones as in the United States.
Salma Hayek, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lindsay Lohan, William Shatner, Kevin Hart, and many others will have an appearance in these commercials. It’s crazy to see how these commercials managed to become one of the highlights of this evening.
And they are pretty funny.
Just for today, I won’t be writing about how most of these products are actually bad for our health and the environment.
I won’t remind you that Russia might (or might not) be about to invade Ukraine. And let’s not talk about the gun violence after Justin Bieber’s show this weekend. Or the situation at the Canadian border. Or…no, not today.
Let’s have this one American holiday without overthinking everything.
I hope you get to spend this day with family, loved ones, and friends. Enjoy your soda, treat yourself with snacks, and have a good time (maybe go for the vegan option).
But after that, we have to get back to being mindful, okay?
I wish all my friends in the United States a beautiful evening full of joy and laughter. The last months were not easy, so let’s take a moment to enjoy life.
And if you are not into football at all, maybe some of these ads bring a smile to your face. Here are a few teasers to get started:
