Relaxing with music

Stress is something we all experience in our life. The reasons can be result of our personal or professional environment or situations. It is believed that stress is one of the major factors for many physical and emotional problems which leads to conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, anxiety disorders, depression, and many others. To overcome these conditions, we majorly depend on medications, or abuse other substances which are not at all good for our health or may leads us to other unhealthy consequences.

During our low phase moment, a playlist of favorite music can be a great source of relaxing. Number of studies have been conducted and proven that music has potential to help us in coping or reducing the traumatic phase at great extent. Listening to music can lower our heart rate and cortisol levels, it releases endorphins, distract us from that painful moment and overall help in reducing physical and emotional stress levels.

Listening to music stimulates rise of dopamine. Music can make us feel good and help in calming as well as relaxing our mind and body. Music can reduce negative emotions, worry, anxiety, restlessness, nervousness and help in increase positive emotions and overall work as a good anxiolytic treatment.

There are many studies indicating that listening to music has more health benefits than we realize. A survey from 11 countries of over 5,600 people showed that during COVID-19 pandemic, music has played a very important role in helping people to cope during lockdown. Apart from this, researchers suggested that music help people to sleep better, it reduces anxiety in children and positive effect in life of Alzheimer’s disease patients.

In another study researchers observed the effect of music on stress perception and anxiety. Stress responses were monitored by measuring salivary cortisol and salivary alpha-amylase, heart rate, and respiratory sinus arrhythmia. They found that listening to music before the test lead to faster recovery from stress in all subjects.

So, whenever you feel stressed or worried, grab your earphone or headphone and start your favorite playlist and enjoy your musical routine while making yourselves calm and relax.
