Once in a while, take time to thank the man in your life

Today take time to thank the man in your life…

After all, we women have many championing our causes and celebrating us; the fanfare we get on events like International women’s day is just an occasion among many!

Men also need to be applauded, particularly the ones who are:

Too naive to get offended by the countless articles accusing them as a whole for the atrocities embarked on the women for which only a few black sheep among them are responsible…

Too naive to protest as they see their daughters growing up with a bias; a bias so strong that the present generation of girls brands all males as oppressors…a tag from which no men are excluded…

But for a just world ruled by rational beings, not zealots, it is important to ensure that the young girls do not grow with such a blind judgment and are taught to appraise the other gender rationally…

So, once in a while, hail the man in your life;

Who has helped you to challenge yourself along the way,

Who has made it a point to listen to our musings(sometimes better described as nagging) after a back-breaking day just to keep you going,

Who has forgotten to buy a gift for you on your birthday but once reminded has joined you in browsing through endless listing of dresses online with the silent prayer that you like one of them,

Who has assured you of his presence and promised you a secure future when your health or spirit has failed you,

Who has given you the freedom of enjoying your life and experimenting with your career by shouldering the major financial burdens of supporting the family,

He has missed many growth milestones,parent-teacher meetings, performances, and award ceremonies of his only child despite having a strong urge to be part of those experiences as he had to keep his job to keep the family hearth burning,

and last but not least,

Who has left the actual decision-making relating to all household matters, finances, and children’s future to you as he trusts your abilities, patience, and thoughtfulness more than his own …though he would never admit it.

Let’s free the coming generation from the bias we are imposing on them. It is important to understand that patriarchy is not the cause of our trouble, but the women who raise patriarchs are the ones to blame. Women from ages have chosen to dominate others of the same kind to feel powerful, particularly in the domestic settings, and have strengthened the norms which support the subjugation of fairer sex. Instead of passing on dreams for a better life, they have been passing on the lessons of how to turn into a victim to their younger generations, in the grab of rising dutiful daughters and daughters-in-law and rightly so, with them lies the responsibility of transforming the world to a gender-equal one. Women must promise to be good to each other; for the women to truly rise and make it a habit to acknowledge the men in their lives who light their paths in some of the other capacities. Our aim must not be to raise blind feminists but to build a world that bases itself on respecting the other gender and thoughtfully responds to the perpetrators of aberrations.
