“He said, ‘You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you become loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand’.”
-from “The Velveteen Rabbit” by Margery Williams
Do you believe in love??? It’s easy in these uneasy times to become hardened, cynical, and distrustful of love’s existence. I get it! Enough with the “fake news” and memes! We want facts…essential and solid evidence that we are not being naive and stupid by believing in such an ethereal ideal. We habitually attempt to protect ourselves from the harsh and soul crushing outside world by deciding what we believe. Many of us spend inordinate amounts of time in virtual reality: obsessively searching through a denser and denser fog of information in our search for the “real” truth. By doing so we allow the world we perceive as outside of ourselves, and thereby out of our control, to become our inner reality as well.
Like so many other things, it comes down to a matter of faith…what do you choose to put your faith in? When you believe in something: material, spiritual, philosophical, or artistic…when you believe in it without needing proof (or see proof where others see nothing), you make it REAL! I’m placing all my chips on LOVE being the unifying force in the universe and the creator of all things. I have faith. I believe. I fully imagine and cherish my reality into three dimensions. What I love best, and most authentically, “becomes”. All the proof I need that love is real.
