When deciding what color to paint a room, most individuals make their final decision based on trending themes and what looks good to the eye. However, there are also some psychological impacts of the paint colors you choose, which can help determine what sort of shade you should go for depending on what type of mood you want the room to elicit.

Whether wanting to decorate a bright and cheery room or reduce your anxiety, the following effects of room colors can help you decide which shade to go with to support your mental health journey.

White: When picturing the color white, one usually can’t help but think of purity. This color became a common theme among modern farmhouses in years past and became the chosen color scheme for polished kitchens. However, white can also give off feelings of anxiety, as some studies have shown. Choosing an off-white shade can help offset this anxiety while still offering a neutral pallet to work with.

Yellow: Although it has a reputation for being very bright, the color yellow can be quite complementary to a home’s interior design, especially if introduced in muted colors. While a stark yellow might stick out like an eyesore, going with more neutral shades of it can contribute to a pleasing color scheme. As for the mental health benefits of this color, most associate this color with happy memories. Going with soft shades of yellow can contribute to a cheery atmosphere.

Red: Most individuals shy away from harsh colors like red when painting their homes, but it is not unheard of to have a room painted this color, especially as it can be a conversation starter. This vibrant color usually generates excitement. However, with the color red being able to raise one’s blood pressure and heart rate, it is recommended not to go overboard with this shade, especially in rooms that are meant to be for relaxation.

Green: Green is most associated with nature, and this color has always been an inspiration for others as they get in the great outdoors. When translated into indoor paint color, the shade’s association with nature evokes feelings of renewal and inspiration. You might feel inspired when surrounded by this color. Muted and earthy tones such as green complement bedrooms, living rooms, and other spaces you want to breathe life into.
