One of Satan’s trick is to take us away from God’s presence and fill your mind with thoughts of defeat. If you allow depression to hit you, you will become irritable and full of self-pity and before you realize it, you have forgotten that God is able to deliver you and you will be having a self-pity party all by yourself and really believe you are alone and no one cares. Maybe if Elisha was with Elijah, he would have reminded him of God’s mighty hand on his life. He probably would have also reminded him of how he called down fire and killed 400 Baal prophets and how he can call on the same God to destroy Jezebel. That might encourage him, but he would rather be alone. I know as a human being, we might feel like being on our own as a form of escape from it all. As good as it is, we need to know we are alone with God for strength and encouragement in His word, not to feed our mind with all kind of negativity. When you are constantly by yourself, you will realize that you have more time to think deep and it depends on the angle you are seeing about your life.
Are you deliberating if your life is worth living or you are contemplating suicide just like Elijah or you enjoy spending quality time with God?. Thank God for His grace. God sent an angel to Elijah to minister to him, not only mentally but feed him with food for the journey ahead. God knows how to get through to us at the lowest and to comfort us, but the question is ‘Do we receive the help and surrender?’. Elijah ate the food and continue the journey for another forty days and forty nights. Sometimes as simple as it is, we might just need food and rest to continue the journey. Its not everyday binding devil, because you might just be the one destroying your body because you are not applying wisdom. Many Christians are suffering from spiritual burnout right now because they are serving God in their own strength, forgetting its not by might or strength but by my spirit says the Lord.
We need to know when to switch off and on. We need to follow Christ example, many times he will separate himself to pray and speak to God and regain strength and someday with few selected disciples to pray with him. Always surround yourself with people that will encourage you and pray with you, not people that will constantly draw strength from you and drain you. Pause, take a break and have a cup of tea.
