It is so wired into the fabric or our being that no one stops to question where it came from and whether we have to use it to cope with a number of issues. It is like we are addicted to fear whenever there is change, an unknown future, change, something out of the ordinary, change, new information, change, our reality is shifting, and all things that steer us towards personal growth.
It is a state of doing or not doing . . .
When we feel that the circumstances don’t allow us to do anything about them, and we feel out of our depths, we feel fear – right? When something is sprung upon us at the last moment, we feel fear, and when the rug feels like it is going to be pulled out from under us, we feel fear.
All of this points to a core idea that we can be hurt, rejected, powerless, harmed, isolated, humiliated and forgotten . . . where is the genesis of this idea?
The addictive part of fear is quite chemical, and unless it is consciously addressed, changed and understood . . . it remains indefinately. This chemical path resembles the tracks that animals make in the wilderness, the ones that are grooved in for generations to come. The dirt is etched deeply into the earth, the rocks are scuffed and rounded away, and the grass knows not to trespass upon the pathway of the countless creatures that use it.
Instinct and fear go hand in hand when you are trying to survive . . . better the well worn path that is known, than the path into the unknown. But we are speaking about creatures and not about humans.
So lets be honest for one second – we are part creature – because we have a physical body that operates in harmony with nature just like an animal’s body does. But are we only that?
No, we are more than that.
We are both, the ability to BE and DO, and this is where the distinction lies.
If fear is a state of doing or not doing, then what is the state of being?
The state of JOY. Pure and simple. Our brain has the capacity for both but we have to choose from moment to moment. The really challenging part is that joy is not chemical and we have to overcome the chemical pathways that flow through our hormonal brains.
We are not animals (well some of us anyway:)) and survival can be enhanced by the state of joy, for its hidden secret is that in it, a person has an incapacity for fear. Why would anyone be incapable of fear you may ask?
Fear goes hand in hand with the circumstances that are attracted to it and the lack of powerful solutions and abilities. Joy does the opposite . . . it does not attract situations that have no solutions or lack powerful outcomes. Joy brings a completely different set of circumstances to the person who embraces it as a lifestyle.
