I’m tired.
I’m tired of fighting the mental health system.
I’m tired of the garbage.
I’m tired of these harmful ways of describing human beings and their experiences.
I’m tired of it all.
I don’t believe in self-sabotage.
I don’t believe people are disorders.
I don’t believe our mental health system has gotten it right when it comes to helping people experiencing emotional distress.
We know there’s no such thing as a chemical imbalance.
We know systems of oppression have a huge impact on people’s well-being.
We know that lack of resources makes life difficult.
So why are we so focused on the individual and calling them mad when responding normally to abnormal situations?
I believe people want to be happy.
I believe people want to feel better.
I don’t believe in garbage, non-scientific interpretations of people.
I don’t believe behaviorism is the path to feeling better.
I believe in finding meaning in one’s life.
I believe in acknowledging that some people have more than others and that systems of oppression are harming people.
I believe the problem is never a person and that people actually are victims of cruel things.
I believe words like self-sabotage, disorder, and crazy are causing harm, not helping us live our best lives.
I believe we can do better when it comes to helping people thrive.
