I’m sorry for ignoring your needs when you needed me most.
I’m sorry for shaming your tears when you needed my support.
I’m sorry for stifling your joy when I deemed it wrong to laugh.
I’m sorry for hiding when you wanted my open heart.
I’m sorry for dousing your anger when you needed to protect me.
I’m sorry for saying “Yes” when you needed me to say “No”.
I’m sorry for being scared of your truth.
And I’m sorry for forcing you into a role instead of being free.
I’m sorry for repeating all these mistakes and more as I grow.
But beyond this all
I’m sorry for betraying you as an adult because that’s how I learned to relate to you as a child.
