There are hurricanes wiping out homes and whole communities,
Downpours of water rushing down streets, flooding basements & restaurants
There is water that cares not where it flows
There is plastic & oil in the oceans and there may not be enough fish soon to put in our mouths
Who knew that water could be so powerful
There is food & trash ending up in the same place,
wasted
Some of us are recycling
But is it even enough if we all aren’t doing it?
There are fires in forests burning the trees, creating smoke you can’t see through
They are the ones who give us fresh prana
They are the ones who are not afraid to spread their roots in the dirt and rise to the heavens
But their ashes are haunting us
The soil is being sprayed with chemicals going into our food and our bloodstream
The very soil that is meant to nourish us
Is killing us
There are gusts of wind taking down trees, fences, and power lines,
Blowing us in directions we don’t want to be in
There are parts of the world who already live without power
Some of us are turning off lights, unplugging tvs, toasters, and computers when they’re not being used
But is it even enough is we all aren’t doing it?
I am watching how the seasons don’t feel like seasons anymore,
Fall is barely fall
Spring is barely spring
And we are seeing how nature has supported us, held us, taken care of us since before we can even remember
But we have taken her for granted
She was here first with the dirt and the trees and the birds and the fish
It shouldn’t be a surprise that she in angry
Yet somehow it is
Every
Time
She is roaring
Raging
Shaking
Screaming
For us to pay attention to her
When the time comes – how will you apologize to the earth?
