6 Small but Toxic Habits that Negatively Affect our Mental Health.

Most of us slip into bad habits all the time.

I know I do. I’m not perfect, and my actions aren’t always aligned. Although I try my best to keep my mental health in check, sometimes I do things that negatively impact my well-being without even realizing it.

These toxic habits often slow me down and decrease my mental and emotional energy. Sometimes I recognize them, other times I deny their presence. Either way, they can be destructive to my entire well-being.

According to Psych2Go, there are six small but extremely destructive things that destroy our mental health:

  1. Bad posture
  2. Clutter
  3. Self-deprecating jokes
  4. Selfie
  5. Multitasking
  6. Venting or complaining

Looking at these habits, they do seem small, even futile maybe; however, if we take a closer look at the consequences, we might discover they’re enemies in disguise.

All of them make perfect sense to me and I can relate to more than one. I can even name a few more than have been detrimental to my mental health. Sometimes I worry too much, think too much, stay in all the wrong places for too long, and give myself a hard time when I mess up.

What really matters is to recognize the habits that have been pulling us down. To move from self-destruction to self-love. To make sure our actions are motivated by awareness and mindfulness.

Ask yourself today and every day:

>> What are the habits that tend to increase my anxiety?

>> What things should I eliminate—or reduce—from my daily routine?

>> How can I do better?

>> How can I start today?
