8 Quotes for the Impatient Heart.

I’ve spent the past few weeks in a weird limbo.

A waiting game, if you will.

I have decisions to make—choices that are hanging heavy in my heart. But before I can make those decisions, I need answers. And this is where the waiting comes into play.

I don’t have the answers, so I scramble to get them. I make phone calls and sit on hold. I send emails and check for replies. I refresh websites and see no updates. I seek out advice and weigh my options. I create plans and backup plans and contingency plans for my backup plans.

And still…no answers.

There are moments when I see myself as a patient person. Someone who is able to sit with my fear and sadness and anger and hold them with softness. Someone who knows it’s better to take a breath (or 10) before responding. Someone who has faith that whatever happens is happening for my best interest.

Then moments like this happen. Moments when I realize I have no control. Moments when I feel the patience draining from my body. Moments when no matter how much effort I exert, I know the answers will only come when they’re good and ready to come.

Because life doesn’t always work on my timeline.

And when my impatient heart needs a little hope—a reminder that the answers will eventually come—I read these quotes:

“The two hardest tests on the spiritual road are the patience to wait for the right moment and the courage not to be disappointed with what we encounter.” ~ Paulo Coelho

“This is one more piece of advice I have for you: don’t get impatient. Even if things are so tangled up you can’t do anything, don’t get desperate or blow a fuse and start yanking on one particular thread before it’s ready to come undone. You have to realize it’s going to be a long process and that you’ll work on things slowly, one at a time.” ~ Haruki Murakami

“What we are waiting for is not as important as what happens to us while we are waiting. Trust the process.” ~ Mandy Hale

“Have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart. Try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books written in a foreign language. Do not now look for the answers. They cannot now be given to you because you could not live them. It is a question of experiencing everything. At present you need to live the question. Perhaps you will gradually, without even noticing it, find yourself experiencing the answer, some distant day.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke

“Patience is power. Patience is not an absence of action; rather it is ‘timing.’ It waits on the right time to act, for the right principles and in the right way.” ~ Fulton J. Sheen

“The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. To dig for treasures shows not only impatience and greed, but lack of faith. Patience, patience, patience, is what the sea teaches. Patience and faith. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach—waiting for a gift from the sea.” ~ Anne Morrow Lindbergh

“What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it. Don’t complain.” ~ Maya Angelou

“Do you have the patience to wait until your mud settles and the water is clear?” ~ Lao Tzu
