The Symbolism of Spring Equinox

This afternoon, the Spring Equinox will be complete … the first day of Spring and officially marking the end of Winter. The Spring Equinox is a very important day in Nature-based faiths and celebrated all over the world for its symbolism of the return of the sun with “New Life” and “Awakenings” that occur after the long cold Winter season – a time of silence inflection, and solitude. In the Spring, just like us, seeds that have lay silently dormant in the ground under the cover of fallen leaves and debris begin to crack open, come totally undone, and begin new life. Because human life also follows the cycles of the seasons, we are not unlike the seed – we too have lay silently dormant during the Winter months and will come to life in the warm Spring season. Our Spring Equinox in the Northern hemisphere occurs simultaneously with the Fall Equinox in the Southern hemisphere, and the Spring and Fall Equinox are the only two days each year in which nature and seasonal cycles of the Earth are in perfect balance and harmony. The next Equinox occurs again in the Fall – so until then, what will the next 6 months look like for you?  What in your life is asking to be grown?  How will you celebrate this period of new beginnings that has been manifesting within you all winter? Let’s go … let’s come undone. There is a LOT of growing to do.

“It is spring again … the earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.” — Rainer Maria Rilke
