And then there’s one of my favorite songs of all time—I’m Obsessed with this Cover of Toto’s “Africa.” ~ Molly, ed.
Being a millennial, I grew up in the era of Queen Bey.
Beyoncé was and continues to be, everywhere.
I’ll admit upfront that I’m not a dedicated fan. I’m more of an observer. I’ve never been to a concert. I don’t seek out her music. I couldn’t tell you which song is on which album. But I’ve been around to watch her career and I appreciate the influence she’s had on so many women (and men). She’s impressive. You can’t deny it.
She’s impressive, but I thought she couldn’t surprise me anymore. New announcements from her are more shrug-off-able as, “Of course she’s doing that.” or “Obviously Beyoncé said that.”
But then the Superbowl happened, where she announced a new album drop with hints inside a Verizon commercial. Not just any album, but a country album.
Color me surprised.
Don’t get me wrong. I listen to country music. I love the story-telling aspect of a good country song. And there’s a long history of Black country music. That’s not surprising to me at all. What’s surprising to me is that Queen Bey is stepping into that history.
Should it surprise me? No, probably not. The more I reflect on it, the more sense it makes.
I just had a hard time seeing it.
Like so many other people, I had doubts.
And it was a week ago that I found myself singing along in the car with my mom as we drove through empty, bare fields full of melting snow. Road trips are meant for good music and car singalongs.
TEXAS HOLD ‘EM surprised my mom and I both. It grew on us. And by the end, dare I say it, we were converts.
I’m here with 16 of the most fun, unique Reels I’ve found featuring TEXAS HOLD ‘EM with the hopes that they’ll bring a few smiles, get you kitchen dancing, and toss off the doubts.
Enjoy!
