Instead of Blocking our Friends & Neighbors in Post-Election America Let’s do This.

Judgment and division are in the air as we digest the election results.

This is a ripe time to practice yoga—to remember that we all share a fundamental unity. We all want peace, safety, and freedom. Our views on achieving this may differ dramatically, but never lose sight of our common ground.

We must be careful not to become the very thing we oppose.

If you see one side as violent, divisive, or judgmental, don’t let those same qualities take root in you. This is not the way forward.

Rather than blocking friends and neighbors with different political views, let’s be open to conversation and understanding. Perhaps we are not as different as we think. Perhaps misinformation has affected your neighbor—or even yourself. This is a time to practice humility and deep listening. Regardless of what anyone else is doing, it is up to us to foster connection instead of separation.

As challenging as it may feel right now, our practice is to keep our minds and hearts open. Move your body to release stagnant energy, and connect with your soul friends to keep your spirit uplifted.

Then, stretch your compassion and listen to those who feel differently than you.

This is where unity and healing begin.
