“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Our sacred democracy is in trouble, and I’m using every peaceful path I know to stop this runaway train from destroying everything I cherish.
In my last article, How to Self-Care & Stay Sane when it feels like Everything is Falling Down, I shared videos and passionate content that embody deep self-care tools designed to help us through these challenging times.
In this article, I’m putting a focused spotlight on a self-care tool that serves as a quiet form of activism. I like to call it “the positive thought transference technique.”
After embracing this way of being for over 40 years, I find it to be grounding, uplifting, action-oriented, affirming, and elevating to my soul.
This way of being is more “woo-woo” and out there than the others, but for any skeptics who don’t like this kind of stuff, please hear me out.
I, too, am a practical, down-to-earth, realistic person, but at the same time, I have personally experienced many more senses than just “hear, taste, see, smell, and touch.” Some philosophers and neuroscientists believe that we may have as many as 33 or more senses.
Like the “Metta Meditation Prayer of Loving Kindness,” my positive thought transference technique focuses on the well-being of ourselves, others, and the world.
The collective whole.
It goes an ethereal step further. It also invites us to consider that we may have within us the inner power to be an active conduit for sending real-time felt vibrations of light, love, healing, and peace through the power of our minds, the wisdom of our souls, and the love in our hearts.
No, we can’t prove the end results scientifically, but I have always felt that there is incredible power in the invisible. Best-selling author, Patrice Karst, says what I feel so well: “Even though you can’t it with your eyes, you can feel it in your heart and know you are always connected.”
As I share how even the most skeptical among us can access this ability, invite your sense of curiosity to our “woo woo” collective table.
Positive thought transference not only thirsts for our unbridled imagination, but it also requires that we deeply inhale and exhale our highest intentions for ourselves, for others, and for the world.
This higher consciousness technique embodies:
>> Open-mindedness
>> Stillness
>> Deep breathing
>> Imagination
>> Focus
>> A Loving and Open Heart
>> Positive Intentions and High Vibrational Values
>> Vibrations of love, light, peace, and hope towards the Collective Whole
>> Belief in the mystical magic of the unknown
>> Compassion
>> Forgiveness
>> Empathy
Mixing the Practical with the Spiritual during Times of Chaos
Besides calling my representatives using the App, 5 Calls, protesting on issues dear to our hearts, joining with like-minded organizations like Indivisible, and MoveON, writing inspirational messages on Elephant Journal, Facebook (for now, I’ve been surprised but grateful that there is still free speech without censorship on this far-reaching social media site), and Bluesky, reading content from truth-telling nonpartisan political historian, Heather Cox Richardson, mentoring members of my large Facebook community, “Shift of Heart: Paths to Healing and Love” (you are welcome to join my island of peace, light, acceptance and love), writing, composing, singing, moving, meditating, and breathing in the beauty of nature…I leave time for quiet activism.
The only tools I need are focus, deep breathing, openness, a nonjudgmental empty mind, stillness, elevated intentions, a relaxed body, mind, and spirit, a keen imagination, self-belief, trust, faith, empathy, compassion, intuition, and an open heart of love.
This ethereal and joyful tool can be done anywhere and anytime. No props needed. Just you, the power of your mind, your openhearted intentions, determination, will power, and your passionate desire for peace.
That said, sometimes I ring one of my chakra tuned sound healing bowls to help support this high vibrational activity. As I ring its sacred sounds, I will myself into the highest version of myself. The part of me that can love unconditionally.
With my eyes closed and with one hand on my heart, I picture myself as a little girl holding hands with the grown-up version of myself. They are standing together on sacred ground. Using my breath as my anchor, I use the power of my mind to transmit love, light, healing, and inner peace to them. As I focus on sending my positive thought vibrations to them, I visualize their hearts opening more fully to possibility, healing, self-kindness, self-love, and inner peace.
Then, I invite all the family, friends, and strangers I’ve met along the way and ask them to step into our healing circle. As they all hold hands together, I create the same spiritual exercise for them.
What comes next may surprise you. I do the impossible and make it possible. I invite people into the circle that I don’t like at all, suspend my biases about them, and transmit the high vibrations of the healing power of love toward them, too.
Yes, even our current American president and his alliances are in that circle. Especially them.
Why? Common ground.
You see, once upon a time, they were infants and toddlers, too. Innocent. Open to giving and receiving love. Trusting. Then, “Life 101” mercilessly grabbed their innocence away and robbed their potential to open their hearts toward giving and receiving love.
According to Mary Trump’s book, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man, Trump’s father “interfered in his ability to develop and experience the entire spectrum of human emotion. By limiting access to his own feelings and rendering many of them unacceptable, Fred perverted his son’s perception of the world and damaged his ability to live in it.”
This highly destructive, charismatic, cult-inducing human being is a result of his upbringing, generational patterns, and life experiences. His unquenchable desire for revenge and to be King of the world is beyond the term “narcissism.”
Despite my strong feelings about him, something happened to me after I read Mary’s book. I still view his words, thoughts, actions, and feelings as highly toxic and dangerous, but her description of his childhood caused me to open my heart with deeper understanding and compassion.
We can hold a multitude of feelings within us at the same time. We can dislike someone, and we can also understand their actions with new understanding. Sometimes, if I know the “why” behind someone’s behavior, I can go beyond my inner judge and jury.
I realize that this approach isn’t an easy one. It isn’t for me, either. It wasn’t until I authored a book on peace that I understood the words “peace and love” on a new and deeper level. And I’m still in process in walking this talk. As they say, “practice, practice, practice.”
As I was writing this book, one of the messages that came through me changed my life.
“The only way we can surround the planet with an all-embracing vibration of peace is if we surround the planet with an all-embracing vibration of love.” Peace Dreamer: A Journey of Hope in Bad Times and Good
As you can see from this message from the universe, love consciousness doesn’t leave anyone out.
So, are you ready?
Let’s integrate this heart-centered tool into your daily life, and if you’ve never experienced deep creative visualizations before, let’s begin with several fun inner mind activation exercises first.
After you read each sentence, close your eyes, imagine the scene, linger there for a while, and then go on to the next visualization.
>> Imagine walking barefoot on the beach at low tide.
>> Breathe in the smell of freshly baked bread.
>> Touch the bark of a redwood tree.
>> Watch a colorful butterfly flutter around purple and yellow flowers.
>> See yourself standing on a mountain top.
>> Paddle your yellow and orange kayak on a smooth and glistening lake.
>> Watch the setting sun.
>> Follow a rainbow.
Now, be brave. Let’s graduate to the “The Positive Thought Transference” creative visualization.
Place both feet firmly on the ground, deep breathe, put both hands on your heart, suspend your inner judge, and make it your highest intention to see the people you like and the people you don’t like with compassion and empathy.
Imagine golden light surrounding them and envision their hearts suddenly opening with the kind of love and peace they have never felt before.
Thank you for trying. Does all this woo woo stuff really work? I don’t know, but it doesn’t hurt to go beyond your five senses. If nothing else, you’ll feel better after you do it.
It feels like a cleansing, a pure heart unencumbered by feelings of dislike, fear, anger, division, hate, bias, prejudice, and narrow-mindedness. This quiet kind of activism can be transformational to one’s soul.
No one can take away the power of our mind and our unlimited imagination. It’s our secret, magical go-to place and you can use it to de-stress, create inner spaciousness, and use it as an energy medicine healing technique for impossible situations.
Like the one we’re in today.
As we go through this darkness and noise, don’t give up. We always have light, gratitude, and love to reach for as our anchors. Meanwhile, keep the dream of this excerpt from my poem, “My Dream for Peace,” alive in your soul.
“Imagine. A day will come when those who have the power to destroy the world suddenly feel a transformational shift in their hearts to save the world.” ~ From the book, Peace Dreamer
If you have made it this far, here is delicious self-care dessert for your efforts. I hope Volume II in the “Breathing with Melody” Vimeo series helps you during these uprooting times.
Please watch this on your laptop. It does not display well on iPhones and iPads. I look forward to your comments and hearing how you are doing.
